Welcome to The Sifted Leaves Blog!

I'm Velenciah, the founder of Sifted Leaves, and I’m thrilled to embark on this journey of holistic living with you.

Our Journey Begins

My passion for natural soap making and holistic living began when I was young, thanks to my Nana. She grew her own herbs and made remedies like cough syrup. She believed that plants could heal anything, and she was never sick. Her love

for herbs had a big impact on me.

As I grew older, I started trying different herbal remedies, from tinctures to salves and infused oils. During the pandemic, I developed really itchy skin with no clear cause. Doctors couldn't find anything wrong, so I decided to take control. I cut out chemicals, changed my diet, and started making my own soap.

I learned from YouTube and, after some trial and error, decided to combine my love for herbs with soap making. I chose not to use coconut oil or fragrances due to sensitivities. Instead, I focused on harnessing the healing power of herbs, leading to the creation of Sifted Leaves.

Spotlight Topic: The Benefits of Herbal Ingredients in Soap Making

Today, let’s explore why herbal ingredients are essential in our soap making process. Herbal tea soaps are gentle on the skin and offer many benefits due to their natural properties. Herbs are more than just plants; they are nature's powerhouses, rich in benefits and history.

Herbs like chamomile, lavender, rosemary, and peppermint each bring unique benefits to soap. Chamomile and lavender are calming, while rosemary and peppermint are energizing. Using these herbs in soap making enhances the experience and adds satisfaction, knowing the story behind the ingredients.

Herbs can be used in many forms: extracts, oils, dried herbs, powders, or infusions. They can add scent, color, and therapeutic properties to soap. Here are some of the typical herbs used in soap making at Sifted Leaves:

  • Lavender: known for its relaxing and antiseptic properties. It cleanses and soothes the skin, making it perfect for a calming soap.

  • Rose: ideal for mature skin, helping to hydrate and tone. It brings a luxurious feel to any soap.

  • Hibiscus: rich in antioxidants and helps to exfoliate and firm the skin. Its natural acids help in purifying the skin.

  • Marshmallow Root: soothes irritated skin and provides hydration, making it a great addition to soaps for sensitive skin.

  • Yarrow: known for its anti-inflammatory and healing properties. It helps in soothing and repairing the skin.

  • Dandelion: is packed with vitamins and minerals that nourish the skin. It also helps detoxify and clear the skin.

  • Nettles: anti-inflammatory properties and are rich in vitamins and minerals, great for skin health.

  • Yellow Dock: cleanses and purify the skin. It’s known for its detoxifying properties.

Using herbs in soap not only enhances the product but also connects you to the tradition of using nature's gifts for health and well-being.
